Australian Organ Donation Awareness Week
February

Keratoconus Australia participates in Organ Donation Awareness Week in support of efforts to increase donation rates of corneal tissue for corneal transplants. This campaign is held every year in February.

Our initiatives include:

• publicizing the need for people to register as human organ and tissue donors
  
• drawing attention to long waiting lists for corneal transplants due to a lack of corneal tissue
  
• participating in events organized by the state eye banks
  
• making corneal transplant recipients available for media interviews

 

If you would like to support initiatives to increase organ donations, you can:

• if you are a corneal recipient, write to your local newspaper explaining how you have benefited from a corneal donation
• urge family and friends to register as organ donors with the Australian Organ Donor Register (FAQ on organ donations)
• distribute brochures from the Australian Organ Donor Register within your community. We can sent these on request.
